You sound smart, so I'll be frank with you-- this board is about as friendly as a drunken, rabid velociraptor, and it's STILL twice as friendly as the WS Board or the Pantypooping board. This board is very loosely moderated and most posts like this (with regards to any sort of opinion) will attract flames.
Don't let it discourage you, though. I've been here for nearly 20 years now. Welcome!
