She sat in the rain, and marvelled, as life fell from the sky... she smiled at the grumpy old man, complaining at the wet, walking by. She watched the sleek black beauty of two crows on the garbage cans weathered metal top, the patina beneath their miraculous curled little leather feet... and she smiled at the lady muttering "filthy birds". She watched as the bucktoothed child with bottle lens glasses in his own little world, navigated the cracks in the sidewalk, and when the chic urban couple walking by muttered "god what an ugly child", she smiled. The young, hungry looking girl, strung out, drugged out, hair in oily curls, swaggered by her, heroin dance, personal trance. it made her want to cry... because it was so.. horribly, beautiful. A soiled world, a tattered sky, wet sidewalks, and cynical old people, with shit lenses for eyes. Sad that they don't see, how in everything, everywhere, that simple beauty. Even in their own disillusioned pain and pace. The old lady in her 30 year old housecoat, most see the yellowing, she was blessed to see the handmade lace. In everything to look at, in everything to be, in every single person, in each twisted tree... something beautiful to see. Something ugly too, if that's what life means to you.
It's a choice you make, like the poison in the junkie girls veins, you eat up the ugly, and spit it out in chains... but it can't bind me you see... because even when I look at the ugliest you... beautiful, to me. Your shit lens glasses, the judgements you dictate to limit your joy of the world around me, don't touch my sight, it's you they blind, and it's horrible, horribly beautiful. Maybe one day though, you'll learn how to really see, one day, someone elses smile, might help set you free. And if not, it's the dark that brings the light, and so you do your own part, to make beauty take flight.
