I think the referals are fine. The poster could be more forthcoming when he gives the link. ("Tell them I sent you and they'll give me a finder's fee.")
I'd like to recommend that you clarify the way that referals show up in your shopping cart. Being a wary internet shopper, I think I would actually avoid buying from you. This is for the simple reason that something I didn't ask for is in my shopping cart. If you can, expand the name of the referal "item". Perhaps name it "Send fee to refering agent. This will not affect your price." Or make the item name clickable with an explaination.
