Our site (whispers of new) had been around for almost 2 years and was only a pay site for about 3 months.
Yes we did close down the free site earlier on for a few months. That time it was due to people harrassing us and threatening us.
We only became a pay site to try and explain our lifestyle better after we felt we didnt get the chance to do so on the HBO program we did. We had to make it a paysite in order to be able to afford it knowing the site was going to be mostly comprised of video and data transfer is expensive.
After making a total of at least 200 videos of which; only 52 of them were used for the site, and 20 photosets. Which covered pretty well every our life, I got pretty damn sick of being on video and making photos. I know lots of people have this suspicion we closed the site cause it didn't make any money, lol! let's just say if we had kept up it could have been a comfortable living. We did really well. There was a period were we were getting 4-5 new members a day which doesn't seem like a lot but if you multiply it by 15 you can do the math.
Anyhoo, money isnt everything and when you come home from work and realize a camera is going to be shooting your every move for the night you can see how it gets tiresome.
Now that I've sorted out that confusion; the answer is we closed the site once before the final closing after it was a pay site.
And Crazi I know you said you're never going to do a website but if you do, I'd reccomend a paysite, and for a little tip on how to make it successful?.... one word: VIDEO
