How about this? We could wear shirts or hats with the words "Dog Lover" on them. The words would either be inside, say a triangle for DLs or an oval or circle for ABs. The geometric shapes could be some pastel color like pink, or simply any color, with only the shape having significance. Approaching someone wearing the symbol would be as simple as saying DL or AB in their presence. If they aren't into diapers, they might not even know you were talking to them, or if they did, just say, "Sorry, I thought you were someone else."
