Being from the US, I don't know exactly what a redback is. Over here we have only two really bad spiders, the "Black Widow" and the "Brown Recluse", aka the fiddleback. The bite of either can be painful and dangerous to someone with an allergy to the venom. My wife was bitten by a "Brown Recluse". She had an extremely painful reaction, which she described as feeling like someone was pouring scalding water over her arm. I had to take her to the emergency room for treatment. We didn't find the spider, but the hospital identified it through the symptoms.
