Vermeil apologizes for remark about Johnson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil apologized for his belittling remark about running back Larry Johnson.
Vermeil had said it was time for Johnson "to take the diaper off and go play" if he's needed to fill in Sunday against Houston. The comment came Tuesday at his weekly news conference while talking about star running back Priest Holmes, who injured his ankle in last Sunday's loss to Carolina. The coach had said he was joking, but added, "in a way, there's a little truth to it."
