DR has evangelized about this on the Daddy's Girl board.It's certainly true that the loudness of men about their own involvement tends to drown out more-diffidently-socialized women and lead to an overestimate of the proportion of men.
However,the solution to creating a more congenial environment for both sexes needs to involve men becoming more soft-spoken as much as it does women becoming more outspoken.It's not all about developing a loud mouth!
