Color and its meaning is designed to be attributed with feeling.
As I've tried to explain to many people over the years brown can just as easily be yellow, or green. Ultimately its how you percieve the feeling associated with it.
So I agree with your point. Color is preception of an event and so on. It's a type of visual linguistic pairing that takes place in our minds.
