Hi, good question. I am in the advertising business, and actually own a small firm. It is not illegal (at least not here in the U.S. to mention a competitor's name. It is however in somewhat bad taste. I don't know how much T.V. you watch but you see it alot more these days. In past years most advertising firms, would use "other leading brand" but in recent times they have started to use names more, and more rigidly point out thier competiton. Car commercials are a good example seeing as how they are on every ten seconds. Here is a perfect example. A few months back Jeep was singing the praises of thier new redesigned jeep, by saying it would outrun a Porsche boxster, Audi TT, and BMW 3-series. I don't wanna start a flame war here so nobody get hostile about this next statement please. Now that ad borders on illegal. Not becuase of the names but because of false advertising. But it would be hard to prove it in court. But I own an 03, 3 series, and HA, not a chance with a jeep, I also own a early model boxster, and again I say HA, you are not going to outrun either of those vehicles with any jeep, thier power to wieght is better, as is thier cornering ability. So there ya go now you know, names are legal, but just watch what you say in a commercial, when you say your better than someone else, you better be sure, and right, because false advertising, is something that will get you sued every time.
thanks,
Tropical Baby
