“Did your mom have one place to put the nappies on or did ot get done in their rooms?”

It varied. I seem to remember that they were put on in either the living room or family room depending on where the kids were congregating when there were multiple kids in nappies at the same time. When it was down to one, I think it was usually in their bedroom but not always.

“Also I gather she usually changed the wet ones before bed?”

Wetting them prior to bed was a misdemeanor as they were toilet training: accordingly, if caught, they would be lectured but she would usually change them again. I can only remember one occasion clearly when she crossly announced “well you can just go to bed in them like that!” not realizing that they probably liked it that way. I suspect that they deliberately went in their nappies most nights before bed: my mother did not routinely check.

“When nappied 2 or more hours before bed was it because she was going out?”

Memories are hazy but I suspect NOT. She didn’t go out that much. I suspect she just wasn’t that organized. Sometimes she expected to send the kids to bed soon and just got distracted by something on television.

I think the interesting aspect of this story is that there is evidence that there was something environmental in our upbringing that pre-disposed us toward experimenting with nappies – I also wonder how deliberate the associated bedwetting was. It can’t have been hereditary - some of us were adopted.
