you should have your mattress protected with a plastic or rubber sheet this way you will not have to worry about the mattress.
you might want to try wetting a few times laying down in a tub .
when you do wet the bed just take the wet sheets and mattress pad and put it in the washer or you could wash it and you in the tub.
once you start wetting you will not want to stop.
