Practice?
My partner could not wet our bed. She could only pee standing up or sitting on a toilet – even if she was wearing a nappy.
She started by kneeling up in bed and wetting her pants before laying back down in it. After a while, she got used to peeing in bed and was eventually able to wet her bed laying on her back under the covers one morning when she needed to go badly. Her ability to do this improved rapidly with practice and now she has no problem wetting her bed or her nappies whilst laying down under the covers.
For some reason I have had no such inhibitions and can wet myself at will wearing pretty much anything in any position.
We use a waterproof mattress protector underneath a conventional (machine washable) mattress protector. The bed can get as wet as we like but the mattress remains just fine. It also controls dust mites!
