well, out with my daddy today he insisted on buying me a pretty pink tinkerbell shirt, and i was so embarassed i snuck off to hide my red red face before he went to pay. of course, we were in the disney store, so i ended up trying to be nonchalant while browsing the aisle of baby disney princess dolls. which did nothing to alleviate my unease. for me there are two levels of identity trouble there, first between the kiddie stuff and my real age of 24, and also between the extreme, caricatured femininity that d/lg play can involve and my decidedly masculine gender presentation (I am biologically female and female-identified but often get taken for a boy in my daily life).

tangentially, in a previous relationship we used to go out shopping for baby items, and sometimes store clerks or other customers would engage us in parenting conversation. we would sometimes make up annecdotes about our 'baby' and her problems or what our plans for the baby were, sharing secret smirks all the while. aside from being one long edward albee joke, it was great fun to challenge each other to 'act natural' about the whole thing :)

so in short, both. exciting because it's our naughty secret about what it means between the two of us, and disturbing because it's glaringly spotlights a part of me that i can't quite reconcile with my adult self-image.
