You should be allowed to keep your blankie as long as you want. Your Daddy can buy you another one if he likes, and you can have two. As your old loved one gradually ends up in the lint trap, you can be breaking in the new one and getting it used to its duties. Sleep with both, and your old blankie will be telling your new blankie what life is like as Tilly's blankie. Eventually you will want to retire your old one to a safe place where it won't have to face any more lint traps. Then your new one will be ready to take over.
Some of us Daddies are a bit old, gray, and ratty too, but we just think of it as having had the stiffness taken out of us by life's wash-dry cycles, and the experience makes us soft and lovable!
