Generalizations don't work in the fetish world.
The affliction seems to be sprinkled at random amongst the population, except for an obvious bias towards males, which might indicate that it could possibly be somehow linked with testosterone.
We've all searched for some common thread that might help us understand ourselves, some 'reason'. There just isn't one.
People don't get to choose which things turn them on. Most people with fetishes knew they were 'different' in childhood, long before any spurt of hormones or knowledge of sexual things. I consider myself lucky that I didn't end up with a fetish that involves harm to others, because it means I can indulge within reason, while those with serious rape or other fantasies must refrain.
