The water in your toilet is no different from the water in your shower. She said she RINSES them in the toilet. Before washing. On occasions when I engage in this sort of thing, I do the same - to get as much of the stuff as possible into the toilet, where it otherwise belongs, before washing the underwear. Incidentally, I have the same experience as the original poster. I've never known underwear to get permanently stained.
