If I recall, the U.S. (and yes, I'm American) also did nothing to help the majority population of South Africa under the stifling opression of apartheid. Remember Ronnie Reagan's policy of "constructive engagement"? In other words, "those people" are not worth our time...
Speaking of the Gipper, I kinda sorta remember that it was HIS REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION that overtly financed and armed Saddam while Iraq was at war with Iran. Talk about "aid and comfort," eh??
