After reading your question, and then the replies, it appears non of them really gave you an answer. You said "crotch clutching," and the replies referred to penis holding; of course totally different.
My reply; a penis hold will only help to surpress some of the urge and if some pee has already left the bladder and a penis squeeze causes a pressure build up in the urethra it will hurt like the "dickens," and be cause for a quick let go and a wetting.
A crotch clutch is different. Just like female pee being able to be blocked with direct finger pressure over her pee hole, ( I know this cause I have done it to my drunk girl friend who had started to pee in my car, and on another occasion when she was sitting in front of me on the toilet) male pee can be held with good pressure in about the same spot; right between the legs more towards his front then back by his back hole, and since the blockage is near the bladder he won't have a long urethra full of blocked up pressure so it won't hurt. What will hurt eventually, like the female, is that bladder when it gets so hard it feels like a solid mass, and then if there is still no release the pain will travel up the uretas to the kidneys as they become backed up with pee.
