I fully appreciate your anger toward a landlord who is unjustly retaining your security deposit. He knows that few tenants will take the time to bring the matter to court.
I hope you didn't overdo your revenge. Your objective was to cost the landlord $500, and I guess he will pay that much for the extra cleaning. But you don't want to appear on a "blacklist", and landlords often belong to an association that maintains such a database. You indicate that you have prevously been a model tenant, and you don't want your anger to spoil that in your next residence.
