My thanks to all three of you for the positive feedback. And, J, you're very perspicacious (whew, that was a big one, let me lie down a bit)re, the accent and Translations:

Bonnet = hood
Tyres = tires

Seeing as I'm hoping to take up residence in your fine country as soon as possible, I'd better familiarize myself with the local vernacular.

However, on the subject of differences in phraseology, when I was still married some years back, we had an American lass come to stay at our flat (apartment) for a couple of days. On her arrival, we showed her to her bedroom and I wanted to know what time I should knock on her door to wake her up. So I innocently asked her, "what time shall I knock you up tomorrow morning?"

The poor woman's eyes sprang to the size of saucers, and I can imagine that a million horrifying thoughts of big time orgies etc must have flashed through her mind. A brief explanation followed of what the above phrase meant in the US/UK, which made me feel like the Mr Universe of Twits, and offerd my profuse apologies.

After my wife and I assured her that the intention was honourable (that's honorable for you guys), we all had a good laugh, and I filed the incident away in the old memory cell for future reference.

Thanks again for the feedback - now to try and remember any other wettings *grin*.
