In BOTH of my fields (medicine and anthropology), when we use a subject for a test...other than simple observation (IE: blue eyes vs brown eyes in bus riders), each subject must sign a consent form acknowledging his/her participation in the experiment. To fail to do this is not only lack of appropriate technique, but also grossly unethical.
