The previous town I lived in in Oklahoma was very small, and I wouldn't dare have done anything like this for obvious fear of someone recognizing me. However, Wichita is just barely big enough that I feel some sense of anonymity in my adventures. Still, one needs to be excruciatingly careful, and that's why I've had several "foiled" attempts for every notable public display.
In fact, that brings to mind one occasion where I could have cried over the lost opportunity. It involved the usual P66 game plan, and I went to the door of the restroom to try it first, to kill a few moments and feel the situation out. Right next to the restroom was a woman putting air into her tires, squatting down not fifteen feet away. She was noticably attractive, and I would have loved to let myself go in front of her. However, she was oblivious to my presence as I waited impatiently for some other guy too finish, and before I could stage any kind of attention getting tactic, the guy came out and I was left with no convincing excuse to do what I planned. I guess that's an interesting twist on "the one that got away."
