There's a big difference between Thomas and Patches' Place. Thomas was indeed a non-profit site which has degenerated into a dead site with very seldom updates and almost no new content. Patches is a different story - it was a hobby site which turned into a paysite. I bought videos from patches and will probably do so again in the future. The level of support and reliability I expect from a paysite is higher than that of a hobby-site. When patches advertises a service ("fan site"), people register and get absolutely no response and Patches representative says she "hasn't heard of it until 2 weeks ago" (when it's clearly displayed on the front page on the website) people are bound to complain.
