Well, I'm not gay, and I cross my legs, and not just when I'm desparate. And so do lots of guys - I've no idea where Zigg got that notion...
But back to the plot - it does help - unless your dick is erect and held straight up, crossing your legs is likely to provide some useful compression help.
And who's to say that we all wear briefs anyway?
What about boxers, or no underwear, when your dick may well be hanging down?
And finally, I don't think I'm abnormally small, but a lot of the time, when I wear briefs, mine is sort of curled up in a downward direction, and I have to make sure I position it pointing up if I want a good "spread".
Finally the signs? - Same as for women, I guess...
