Pheromones: are they involved?

Are there any biologists or similar out there?

Something happened yesterday that set me thinking about the reasons why. See if this makes sense to you…

My wife was kneeling on the kitchen floor sorting some things. I stood infront of her and stroked her hair. She nuzzled her nose in my crutch, lingered for a few seconds and said afterwards, “don’t know why I did that, I just felt like it”. I was wearing recently-bought black Jeans. I had peed my underpants in them for two or three days since washing, but when I pee I do not noticeably wet my Jeans, because I like to pee and dry and pee again.

When we went to bed, I was wearing some underpants I had peed-dried-peed etc with daytime pee that was therefore fairly sweet, not strong and acrid as morning pee can be. There was no impact of any strong smell, it was really rather mild considering how much pee had dried there. We laid on top of the bed and I got her to lay on my lap. We don’t do Oral and probably never will. All the same, she laid there for a full hour, between Midnight and 1am. Sometimes dozing, but mostly awake.

This is unprecedented. Even after sex, she is keen to get into bed after twenty minutes or so. She is not into peeing for fun, but takes part occasionally because I like it. She has never before had a thing about sniffing underpants. I asked her about how she felt and we decided that she was probably inhaling my pee-scent and subconsciously liked it. I feel great about this of course!

Please does anyone know about pheromones? I had the impression that pheromones were emitted by most animal species. I thought they were a class of compound that worked on a very basic level, hidden below the general sense of smell; “straight through the back of the nose and directly into the brain”, as it were. Therefore the effect of pheromones likely would be subconscious. The receiver would have no primary awareness of their presence, only if they happened to notice changes in their own behaviour?.

Is this correct?

Are pheromones in pee?
Are the same pheromones in male and female pee, and do they vary during the day?
Is there anything else useful to know about pheromones?
