If my bladder is just comfortably full, I can pee some, perhaps a quarter of the contents, and then stop. But if I have been holding it too long and have to pee very badly, it comes in powerful surges. Any pause is temporary, just a buildup to another overwhelming surge, until my bladder is nearly empty. It's a bit like ejaculation, with a similar, if less intense, sexual excitement.
