Sure, I'm not discounting those people who can't get out for whatever reason, that's perfectly valid.
I think the classic "a/s/l plz" msg should be banned / trigger a warning to the sender maybe... It does take time to build that trust, so how should one begin? In my time chatting on msg boards / chat rooms, I don't think I've ever been approached by a woman, and have found a lot of women's attitudes maybe slightly dismissive of guys - most likely for the reasons we're discussing. What I'm wondering is how to be friendly, approachable and active in finding someone, without harassing women who receive 100s of messages in a week or whatever, and without also getting lost in the noise. Can be a bit like "what's the point?" in replying to personal ads if I'm just 1 in a hundred. I suppose I'm relying on just being an intelligent, genuine guy who's not out for a one night stand / only diaper sex or internet cybering / picture swapping.
I should point out that I don't mind and have nothing against genuine foreign people - I've met one woman who unfortunately it didn't work out with. It would be funny if it weren't just annoying - akin to reading comic sans or messages typed ALL IN CAPS etc...
Rant over. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in finding someone :)
