I was a chronic bedwetter as a child and was in nappies at night till about 7 or 8 years old after that I had to sleep in my underwear with a towel under my sheet to soak up the inevitable wetness. This was at the advise of our district nurse who said I would grow out of my bedwetting in time and it would help if I felt when I was wet as nappies were making me to comfortable and no insentive to being dry at night. My most vivid and lasting memory after this was my room always smelled stongly of stale pee and my bed was seldom dry, usually damp and smelly. Yet somehow this made me feel safe and secure. It still does today.
