I think each of us goes through stages like this. At one time, I told myself over and over that I would never do this again. Did I? Of course I did.
I did reach a point when I simply accepted that this is part of what I do - who I am. Only then did I lose the thoughts you describe above. Obvously you have not gotten there yet. This decision, one way or the other, is inevitable. That is what it all comes down to.
