It was just a "medical transport" aka a "gomer tote" and the driver was driving Code 3, meaning no lights and sirens, so there was an illusion of leisure. Probably not a wise decision to stop under the circumstances. I've stopped for a piss on long nursing home transfers ,which was no problem.
Had this been a 911 emergency, an EMT would lose his or her cert for stopping for a bathroom break. An EMT would be expected to call out of a shift for erupting bowels, but if something unexpected came up, protocols require that a crew member's personal comfort needs be ignored in favor of the patient's needs.
In other words, you have a license to shit yourself. You might get fired if you stop.
