My mother never gave me this advice. However, some friends of mine had a teacher in 2nd or 3rd grade who had a hard and fast rule that no student was to be excused to use the toilet. This got back to some parents who told their children that if teacher won't let you go use the toilet, go in your pants. I believe the teacher changed her policy.
