You have a choice what to buy or not to buy, and that is how it should be in a free world :o)
It is true that a lot of sites are paid by advertising, as indeed are many non-internet ventures. But, no matter how many things work by being paid by advertising, at the end of the chain has to be some enterprises that contain real products of their own. If there were not some enterprises with their own products, who relied on selling the real products (and not advertising other people's products, who advertised someone else's, etc.), there'd be nothing for the smaller guys to advertise and earn their keep from.
Moreover, if there were not someone being paid to go out and find models, take photos, etc., there'd be no photos for _anyone_ to use, no matter what kind of advertising deals they made :o)
