Well one parent in my case. My mum was a stickler for cleanliness and in those days there was no washing machine or dryer in the house. If I (at age 10) wet the bed not just the family, but the street tended to get to know about it. It was the same if I wet or messed my pants - asking for clean underclothes on anything but laundry day led to being shouted at.
My dad was normally - but not always- as clean and dry as mum expected and this led us into a sort of uneasy alliance where he stood up for me and I tried to do the same for him - but the night he wet his side of their big double bed led to weeks of recriminations.
This was when I was about 7 and I can remember saying "Don't be cross with daddy, he didn't do it on purpose".
