One of the embellishments of the story is that I made it sound as if "the awakening of my inner freak" occurred all at once, in a single moment of shining enlightenment. In fact, it was a long process which took at least ten years.
The incident I described was one of the first steps. Later, in my senior year, there was some experimentation with sexual wetting. In my early 20s I discovered I had an exhibitionist side like Cherry Acosta.
When I was in my late 20s I got involved with a very kinky man who was totally fascinated by stuff like adult clubs, swinger parties, black leather bars and so on. At first I told him I didn't want to be involved with any of that, but my spiritual and intellectual curiosity got the better of me, I let him take me to a few of those places, and I think by the time I was 30 I could finally say that I had learned how to accept and love my "inner freak," respect and enjoy myself as a "sex pervert" and so on.
It's funny. You can say hello to your neighbors walking down the hall every day of your life and if you dress like a normal person, they never suspect anything about your secret life. The guys at the office who see me bend over too far in a short skirt while filing various documents may have some suspicion, but they mostly probably think I'm just plain stupid.
