In real life yes. In my later teen years I had a friend and we talked about it, have talked about our "diaper daze" with my cousin.
In the beginning there were 2 21x40, I believe they were, gauze that were folded together and pinned. Later the 2nd diaper was folded lengthwise in half to make a soaker and later yet a prefold was folded in with the soaker. One of the more embarrassing moments for me was whne mom and my aunt were talking about my cousins and my diapers, mom told my aunt that because I slept on my tummy she had to pad me like a boy with the soaker in the front.
I'm not sure any of us who were bedwetters and wore diapers really liked to admit it to anyone and really wanted it to be a deep, dark secret. Even when my cousin and I were in our diapers together it was like we really wern't.
