Victoria thingie, no offence because I like your posts and you're obviously and intelligent, thoughtful person with a considerable degree of depth and integrity. But I'm sure you won't begrudge me arguing with you, as I know you like an animated discussion yourself and you don't mince your words if you disagree with people...so please view this post in the spirit in which its written, i.e. good fun knockabout debate with someone who I respect enough to spend my time talking with them.
How the hell can you use the Bible as a guide to what is right or wrong? What makes the Bible so special? It's just a library, a collection of writings from various sources. The logic that because the bible doesn't explicitly mention cross-dressing makes it acceptable, and because the bible DOES mention homosexuality makes it unacceptable, I find that kind of logic beneath you intellectually, very jobsworth. ("Ooh I'm sorry, but according to New Testament Section 4.83 Clause 67 it's against the regulations to allow homosexuality. I'm sorry, it's more than my job's worth to allow that. I don't make the rules...")
The bible doesn't, to my knowledge, mention computer hacking or biological warfare or date-rape or credit card fraud. Does that make these activities acceptable? It ain't a definitive list of what's right or wrong, it's an allegory or collection of allegories, some of which are relevant to the modern world, others are not. The bible should only be used in conjunction with other spiritual books past and present. In the same way that reading one newspaper or watching one TV channel will not give you the full story (you have to read/watch a selection of media and infer the truth as a kind of "average"), you can't be too anally retentive and obsessed with what the Bible says. It is just words, at the end of the day.
In my opinion, and it is just an opinion, homosexuality is no different to cross-dressing. If there are no victims then how can it be wrong? I'm not gay, I'm totally straight...but as a DL I have empathy with anyone whose sexual appetite isn't straight down the middle.
If that's what gives these guys pleasure in life, then let them bugger away to their heart's content! Doesn't do any harm to me or you does it?
